Animal Cruelty The topic of animal cruelty is one of great importance to the wold today. Why we humans have the right reserved to treat animals as lesser individuals is beyond me. Animals are fulfilling their part in the ecosystems and communities of the earth, and to the best extent that they are able. For example, a spider is being the best possible spider that it can be, spinning webs and working diligently at what it knows best, not bothering any creatures of the earth besides the ones which it needs to capture for food. We, as humans, decided that we are a much advanced life form and can basically treat anything else in this world in ways which we cannot imagine being treated. Chemicals are instilled into the eyes of rabbits in stocks, often for up to seven days. And because their eyes are physiologically different from ours, they cannot produce enough tears to wash the substance away and it remains there for long periods of time. Unfortunately for them, rabbits are cheap and simple to maintain, and they also have large eyes. In the acute inhalation test the animals are subjected to intense amounts of a certain substance or toxin in a small caged environment for four days to test the effects of chemical inhalants used in aerosol spray cans and other gaseous materials. The animals which actually survive the test are then killed to be examined. This is also done with tobacco products and alcohol. Another instance included the removal of infant rhesus monkeys from their mothers at birth and isolated or given cheap substitutes to study the need for a maternal figure early on in life. After 4 months some of the babies were able to integrate back into a normal monkey society, the ones isolated for a year or more had definite social problems. To attempt to find more out about our sexuality we of course turn to cats. After some nerve surgery, the cats involved became disoriented and lost interest in sexual activity. The heavy haze in the past few days has made the world fuzzy and unreal; pedestrians wrapped in clothes suddenly faded away around me in the â€Å"fantasy† created by the haze. Walking back home after school, I decided to stop at the apricot park and looking for the trees and flowers as I always did before. However, what I saw was white and grey image blurred behind the heavy haze, nothing else. I cannot remember how long it has been. I closed my eyes, feeling so depressed and disappointed. All of a sudden, a bronze door appeared in front of me. The grey and white image started to fade away and the air became fresh. I took a deep breath and could not wait to push into the door. The environment in developed countries are generally better than that in developing countries because of their solid economic and material foundation; the developing countries, usually weak in economy, sometimes neglect to protect the economy when the unilateral goal is economic development. I already knew that I wanted to go to Notre Dame, after high school, but throughout the year I had to deal with people asking me what I wanted to do when I grow up. And after pig dissection, I knew I wanted to be a surgeon. Towards the end of my freshman year my lab group and I were given an unborn pig fetus and a dissection booklet. My three partners and I had to follow the dissection instructions and show our teacher what we had done. This task was easier said than done. First, it was very hard to keep the other three dissectors on task. Second, dissection is a very difficult process. And third, we were under a lot of pressure. I had a real knack for the dissection and feel that I could make a great surgeon. In fact, I enjoyed the pig dissection project so much, that this year, as a senior, I am enrolled in Advanced Placement Biology, where I will dissect a cat! During the same time my mother fell ill, and after being sick for two years doctors were finally able to diagnose her with gluten intolerance. While she was ill, I would have to take care of her, and since she was unable to drive, I would have to stay home. I took care of my siblings during this time and had a lot of time to spend at home doing school work. After she was diagnosed her with gluten intolerance she immediately became much better. This doctor made a large impact on my life and less selfishly, my mother’s life as well. Seeing how one doctor could make a difference in many people’s lives inspired me to follow this path and help ease the pain and suffering of others. These two events took place simultaneously in my life, and have helped me mature and grow. I feel that I can take charge of any situation and perform under pressure. To me, being able to save lives is the greatest work anyone can do. And with my determination and intelligence, I believe that I c an become a doctor and help people.
